Please respect our NEW CHECK-IN TIME OF 4:00 P.M.

The TRADING POST will be open Monday to Friday selling candy, Freezies, chips, pop and a few other things. When you approve your kids’ purchases they are charged to your account.

We will be bringing in FRESH, HOMEMADE PIES on Wednesday afternoons.

In order to keep you safe during your stay with us, we will be taking precautions and following the protocols and guidelines laid out by Public Health to prevent the spread of Covid-19. This will mean some changes to the way we all do things here, and I have outlined these changes below. If and when the restrictions outlined below are lifted, I will be posting the changes on our website at

  • We will be disinfecting and sanitizing the surfaces and the utensils in each cabin on Saturdays, so our check-in time will be 4:00 p.m. rather than 2:00 p.m. Check-out time is still 10:00 a.m.
  • Shared surfaces on the lodge grounds will be disinfected more frequently, according to Public Health guidelines.
  • The gathering size for both inside and outside has now increased, so the clubhouse and the playground will be open effective July 18th, both subject to social distancing.
  • Shared washroom facilities will be restricted to one person at a time, or a family. These will be disinfected on a more frequent schedule according to Public Health guidelines.
  • We will require a list of the occupants of each cabin when you arrive for contact tracing, in the event of an outbreak.
  • We ask that you do not come to the lodge if you or your family are ill or have any of the symptoms of Covid-19. We also ask that you do not come if, in the two weeks prior to your arrival you have have been in contact with someone with Covid-19 or have been out of the country.

We are very much looking forward to seeing you and your family here again this year. You can call or text me at 613‑334‑0500, or email me at Thank you for your patience and understanding.

In 1947, the concept of Devil’s Elbow Lodge became a reality when Carson (Pete) and Florence Johns began construction of the facilities in an old bull pasture on Sharrow Lake. It has been under continuous operation and management by the Johns family since its inception.

Devil's Elbow Cooking AreaDevils’ Elbow Lodge has grown from its humble beginnings to a central lodge, 9 cottages and a recreation room. Sharrow Lake is a small secluded lake without dwellings not connected to the Johns family.

Each cottage accommodates up to 6 persons, and consists of a combined living room/kitchen and 2 bedrooms. All are equipped for complete house-keeping (with the exception of linens); and utilize propane stoves, lamps, refrigerators and heaters. Due to our completely isolated location, hydro is unavailable.

Bathrooms are centrally located with flush toilets and hot and cold showers. An aluminium boat on the home lake is included in the price of each cottage.

Only 100 kilometres northeast of Peterborough lies the Highlands of Hastings, a fabulous unspoiled region of forest and lakes adjacent to magnificent Algonquin Park.

View of Sharrow Lake

Devil's Elbow Lodge lies in the heart of this paradise. It is easily reached by travelling east on Highway 28 East from the Town of Bancroft a distance of 27 kilometres; turning south on the Bessemer Road, and travelling a further distance of 8 kilometres to the lodge.

Hastings County is renowned as one of the finest fishing grounds in Ontario. Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass and pan fish abound in the home lake; and boats are available on many other lakes in close proximity to the lodge; where Bass, Pickerel, Lake Trout, and Northern Pike are found.
